Silk Road Literary Magazine

Katey serves as one of the senior nonfiction editors of Silk Road, a literary magazine published by Pacific University. Editors are currently reviewing submissions for the next issue.

The Lost County Writers

Co-founded by local poet Britt Kaufmann and Katey Schultz, this tight-knit writer's critique group works primarily via email on a rigorous submission schedule. Three other regional writers round out the group, which meets in-person twice a year to restate goals. An article about this group's efforts was published in 2006, titled: "Becoming a Better Writer: Going Beyond the Rejection Letter."

The Writing Life: A Weblog

Katey's weblog, The Writing Life, has received regional recognition and attention from editors since its inception in July, 2005. The blog is an exercise in anti-perfectionism, discipline, and practice. Katey designed five precepts of blogging for her parameters:

  • Write 250-1,000 words 6-7 nights/week.
  • Post first drafts only.
  • Write it in under 30 minutes.
  • Never blog about blogging.
  • Be nice, fair, and honest - without selling out.

Eve's Night Out
